Notice to Landlord of Inability to Pay Rent Due to COVID-19

If you live in Los Angeles County and are unable to pay your upcoming rent due to COVID-19, you
may be protected from eviction. If you qualify for this protection, you should return the “Notice to Landlord of Inability to Pay Rent Due to COVID-19” to your landlord within 7 days of your rent due
date. For example, if your rent is due on March 1 but you cannot afford to pay it, you should send this
declaration to your landlord. If you are able to pay a portion of your rent, you can include this declaration to explain why you are unable to pay the rest. You have to send a separate declaration each and every month you can’t pay. These new protections expire on March 31, 2023, unless the Board of Supervisors changes the date. Note that, “Tenants are still obligated to pay lawfully charged rent.” However, during the emergency period, tenants may not be evicted for failure to pay rent due to the financial impacts related to COVID-19.
